Congratulations to St.Judes Minor Hurler, Robert Hardy, in being appointed as the Dublin Minor Hurling captain for the year ahead. It is a fantastic accolade and one that we are sure that Robert is very proud of.
As the evenings are now getting longer, and the players no longer fear the endless running and laps that is pre-season training in the cold and dark, it is coming into a very important time of the year already for a lot of the Adult Teams. Last week was mainly a good week for Adult Teams in St.Judes. The Minor Footballers have performed very well already this season, but as of last week had not got what they deserved results wise. This changed last weekend when they enjoyed a great victory over Clontarf. Match report is as follows:
Minor Football Division 1A
St.Judes 2.18 Clontarf 1.11
The minor a football team at last showed their potential in this game played on the splendid facilities in St Annes on sun am. While the scoreline might suggest that this was an easy victory nothing could be further from the truth. Fielding our strongest team so far this year this game was level half way through the second half. A goal from full forward Daniel Sutcliff at this stage gave us a cushion and inspired the team to play their most effective football this year. Points from good teamwork stretched the lead before cornerback cian clynes had the composure to finish our second goal. Stand in goalkeeper Finton Warfield for john carty (who was not released to play by Dublin minors) had a very composed performance.
Last Thursday evening, the Junior B Footballers started very well in their league game against Naomh Olaf, but unfortunately they were beaten in the end. Thanks to Fergus McNally who took some great shots of the game as seen on the following link http://www.flickr.com/photos/stjudesgaa/sets/72157623848029196/
It was a busy weekend on the Hurling front, and the Senior Hurlers had a difficult game against Cuala to get through, and unfortunately they were on the wrong end of a 0-17 to 2-09 defeat. Let us hope that they soon find their undoubted potential. On the Intermediate hurling front, they continued their fantastic start to the season with a great win over local rivals Ballyboden St.Endas.
In Camogie, our Senior Hurlers lost their first game of the season, but they came straight back with a brilliant win over Raheny last night by 0-10 to 0-06. This should set them up nicely and give them the confidance for the remainder of the year. Well done to them. The Intermediate Camogie team will play on Thursday evening against Raheny in Tymon Park at 6.30pm.
This weekend sees another very busy week in terms of fixtures, and it is an extremely important one for the Junior teams as they begin their quest for Championship glory. Our Junior A Footballers under the tutelage of John Dineen, have made a tremendous start to the season and will go into their game against Whitehall Colmchille full of confidance. The Junior B team have showed great promise and will need to see all positive attributes against local rivals Robert Emmets. Both games take place on Sunday morning at 11am and all support is welcome and appreciated. There is no better way to start the weekend than taking in the Senior Football match in Tymon on Friday evening. They take on Thomas Davis which will feature St.Judes Coach Ciaran Farrelly, and will hope that this is great preparation for their Championship match next week.
Our Minor Hurlers are also in action, so there is more than plenty to choose from in the glorious sunshine, and we wish all teams competing over the week the very best of luck.
