All across the Club members were saddened last weekend to hear of Ray's death. Ray was very well known to us in Judes and frequently helped out with Club fundraiser events, with his guitar, and always left the crowd cheering after his set. Music was a big part of his life and he was involved in a number of bands and also one-man tribute acts like Johnny Cash, Bryan Adams and Garth Brooks. He was a regular feature on the sideline for Kevin and Aoife's matches. Ray was a family man, and always spoke with pride about Kevin and Aoife. If you met him while he was walking Jesse and Layla, he would always stop for a chat, with a warmth that was genuine - he loved meeting people, and was a great listener. Ray spent most of his working life in the public sector. He worked in the Dail and also with President Higgins in Aras an Uachtarain. Ray's colleagues in Leinster House fondly remember his stories of being mistaken for the famous Irish footballer of the same name, including one time when he was sorting out a bank account ! They talk about him being great craic, but conscientious in his work as a Dail Usher and working on important Dail Committees. He loved Limerick hurling and even went as far as sporting a Limerick jersey on a golf course after their all-Ireland win. In recent years Ray played football with friends in Templeogue Utd each Monday and Saturday and really enjoyed playing those games. When Ray scored, it was like he had scored the winning goal in an FA Cup final for his beloved Baggies, and his face would light up. He was a great teammate and loved the banter with the lads. The loss is deep for the Treacy family, and we share that loss with you.
May he Rest in Peace.
